121211 Park Yuchun – We are already curious about his 5th work

[OBS PLUS Kim SookKyung reporter]

Park Yuchun is not an actor who is only loved by the public. He is an actor whom many reporters as well as his co-workers adore. When Park Yuchun started his acting career, it was true that the impression of him as a ‘star’ was stronger than an ‘actor.’ It was not easy to get rid of the prejudice an ‘idol’ which already covered him. However, he himself nicely broke such a stereotype and is being recognized as an ‘actor,’ not as an ‘idol actor.’

The public reactions toward the challenge to the acting by Park Yuchun who made his debut as a singer in 2003 were not favorable. Since they thought he easily got the leading role by the name value of ‘Hallyu star.’ Park Yuchun, by his acting which is sincere enough to erase such concerns, has made the public look forward to his next works.

Park Yuchun successfully accomplished his debut as an actor by performing the role of Lee Sunjun, a representative ‘picky guy’ of Chosun in KBS2 drama ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’ in 2010 and strengthened his position as an actor through MBC drama ‘Miss Ripley’ in which he took a role of considerate, ‘caring guy’ Song Yuhyun and he succeeded in proving his power to lead the viewing rate as well as his acting skills.

Subsequently, Park Yuchun broadened the dimensions of his acting to the charisma and wackiness which were totally different from the nature of his previous roles through complete digestion of the double role of the Crown Prince, Lee Gak and the heir of an enterprise, Yong Taeyong. Park Yuchun could be reborn as a real actor with a successful outcome of ‘the rediscovery of Park Yuchun’ by demonstrating his ability of acting moving across comedy, seriousness, and melo.

Then, in his fourth work, MBC drama ‘I Miss You,’ Park Yuchun as Han Jungwoo just like a ready tailor-made role for him is generating a fever of ‘Yuchun Sickness’ one more time.

Park Yuchun, an actor of achromatic color, who completely digests various characters as red when red is needed or as blue when blue is needed for his work is reviewed through his dramas.

# Sungkyunkwan Scandal – his potentiality as an actor recognized

Park Yuchun chose fusion-historical drama as his first work of challenge to acting. This was a smart choice. This fusion-historical drama is good enough to let the public have the impression of him as an ‘actor,’ not as an ‘idol actor’ since his public image of an idol was strong. His prominent acting skill was in the center of such a change of image.

Park Yuchun who played the role of Lee Sunjun, a representative ‘picky guy’ of Chosun approached women’s hearts with his blue Sungkyunkwan uniform and Hanbok (Korean traditional costume) when he made his debut through ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal.’ Particularly, his performance, evocative of high time of youth that was beautiful to anybody, was largely loved.

Park Yuchun acquired the recognition of acting ability and the public appeal at the same time through ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’ and he swept all the major Rookie awards including Baeksang, KBS Drama Award, and Seoul International Drama Award while his potentiality as an actor was acknowledged.

# Miss Ripley – smart choice in another sense

Through ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal,’ Park Yuchun successfully departed as an actor. Everybody expected that his next work would be ‘romantic comedy.’ But, the guess was far off. As he chose fusion-historical drama as his first challenge to acting by getting off a general expectation, he again chose ‘Miss Ripley,’ a typical melo drama as his next work.

While he dispelled the concerns on his choice whether he could do it well, the comment such that ‘he is the only one who survives in this drama’ came out and he once again proved his strength to lead his work.

Park Yuchun playing Song Yuhyun in MBC drama ‘Miss Ripley’ received praises through his perfect performance throughout gentle charisma, dignified force as the Chief Director, heartbreaking melo toward a women he loved and had a splendid achievement of the Rookie Award from MBC Drama Award and Baeksang Popularity Award for Male Actors.

# Rooftop Prince – becoming jewelry from a gemstone with endless potentiality and talent

Park Yuchun chose ‘Rooftop Prince’ as his third work. SBS deposited a key for reviving its stagnated Wed/Thursday drama to Park Yuchun and was confident about him that he would become the leader for the revival of its damaged Wed/Thursday drama slot.

In ‘Rooftop Prince,’ Park Yuchun played the double role of the Crown Prince, Lee Gak and the heir of an enterprise, Yong Teayong. Especially, Park Yuchun’s responsibility was heavier this time since he was in the position to dominantly lead the drama, which was different from his previous works of ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’ and ‘Miss Ripley.’

Although the concerns that Lee Sunjun of ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’ and Song Yuhyun of ‘Miss Ripley’ were respectively overlapped with Lee Gak and Yong Taeyong of ‘Rooftop Prince’ came out before the drama started, he received praises that ‘they knew he was Park Yuchun’ by perfectly expressing the nature of each character.

Park Yuchun broadened the dimensions of his acting to the charisma and wackiness which were totally different from the nature of his previous roles through his perfect performances of the double of the Crown Prince, Lee Gak and the heir of an enterprise, Yong Teayong. The Crown Prince, Lee Gak materialized by Park Yuchun perfectly portrayed feelings of joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure. He made viewers not able to take their eyes off him even for a moment while he expressed the sorrows of the Crown Prince with tears after he lost the Crown Princess or he presented a comic feature with thick faces for the episodes experiencing after he came to the modern world from Chosun.

Above all, as Lee Gak of ‘Rooftop Price’, Park Yuchun made viewers that they could not even imagine other actors as Lee Gak than him. By illumining his acting ability that could cover a wide spectrum of performances including comedy, seriousness, and melo, Park Yuchun again received Baeksang Popularity Award for Male Actors in TV Section, People’s Choice Award and Hallyu Male Actor Award in Seoul International Drama Award.

This fever spread to overseas so that the number of members of Park Yuchun’s fan club at Baidu, a large portal site in China and ranked as the 1st place for the viewing rates among all Korean dramas aired after 2011 at Taiwan GTV. Moreover, he was selected as ‘the foreigner-chosen, the best Hallyu actor who can promote Seoul’ in a survey implemented by Seoul city.

Accordingly, Park Yuchun had a pleasant meeting with his fans by holding ‘2012 Asia Tour Fanmeeting’ in four places which started from Shanghai and went through Shenzhen, Taiwan and Thailand. All of the fanmeetings held in these four places had a record that all the seats were sold out on the day when the ticket link was opened and finished a successful tour with enthusiastic supports from fans in every place and with heated competition to cover the Fanmeeting among local media.

# I Miss You – Thank you just because it’s Park Yuchun

Currently, in MBC Wed/Thursday drama ‘I Miss You,’ Park Yuchun succeeds in the transformation into such an attractive character as Han Jungwoo, a detective in the violent crime unit who is chasing criminals as a beast with suppressing his longing toward a women and he has been receiving high praises for outstanding expression of sincere emotions and acting skills.

Within this drama, Han Jungwoo called as ‘Crazy Rabbit’ is a detective in the violent crime unit who has cheerful personality with thick faces and is eager to chase criminals while suppressing his longing toward a woman. Whenever he sees injustice, he just goes insane. He is a fearless detective who is desperately looking for his first love.

‘Crazy Rabbit,’ Hang Jungwoo completely permeates him. Park Yuchun who perfectly changed into a detective fitting well with a nickname of ‘Crazy Rabbit’ has given a deep imprint of ‘Han Jungwoo’ to viewers by accomplishing a stereoscopic character through intense acting and his power to capture the viewers’ attentions.

When we watch him acting, we already become curious and look forward to his next work. Park Yuchun is an actor with unique charm and power to bewitch viewers. This is the reason why we look forward to another characters realized by him.

# ‘Yuchun Sickness’ in adverting world … fast rise in his value by the success of his drama

Park Yuchun is also in the center of attention from the adverting world as he has risen as a novel blue chip while he has made a firm foundation as an actor by giving off various charms from a cute boy to a manly look.

Currently, Park Yuchun works as a commercial model for Ice Tea Tio of Dongseo Foods, Kissmyun of Ottouggie, Nintendo, Blacksmith, Save the Children. Including the products modeled together with JYJ members, Park Yuchun can be easily found in TV commercials.

Park Yuchun works as a model for so many commercials due to outstanding effects he can bring to the products. Actually, the person in charge of Ottouggie revealed, “Not only Ramen lovers, but also domestic and international fans who like Park Yuchun show their interests in Kissmyun so that the effect of advertisement is remarkable since such interests are spontaneously connected to the purchase.”

The value of Park Yuchun was already recognized, but he seems to raise his value higher after he attracted women’s hearts through his dramas. Especially, many advertisers are eager for ‘catching Park Yuchun’ because his gentle and warm image is an element to be a reliable model to customers.
